Parents
Parents in Partnership
This group, as from June 2004, has superseded Ashton on Mersey School's Parent Teacher Association. The origin of PIP was that a group of enthusiastic teachers wanted to increase and develop links to involve parents in their childrens' social, moral and academic development.
Meeting half-termly, the parents are given presentations on a variety of issues such as revision skills, bullying and counselling. The meetings have been well attended. Several parents were also members of the PTA and it was a natural progression that the two groups amalgamated in June 2004.
Each PIP meeting is opened with a brief 15 minute report to parents on school staffing, activities, policies and proposed developments and the group act as a sounding board for the Senior Management Team.
The meetings allow parents to express concerns and raise ideas. Staff or external agencies then offer a workshop on issues which have been identified by the group as training needs. Feedback has been extremely positive and beneficial for all involved.
The group is made up of parents/carers and staff, we aim to inform parents about the issues that most interest them in relation to their child's education.
Each session has a different focus and may be delivered by a guest speaker or a member of staff. Examples of sessions offered last year are:
We have also held social events such as:
Parents in Partnership is a great way to meet other parents/carers and staff as well as taking an active role in your child's education.
