Home Learning provision – September 2021

Current DfE guidelines state that any pupil with coronavirus should isolate at home for 10 days. In addition to this, any pupil who has symptoms must go for a PCR test and any pupil in a household with a confirmed case must isolate at home. Please see an update to Trafford guidance here for more details:

This disruption to education will be covered by home learning. Every pupil missing school for a coronavirus related issue will be added to a home learning classroom on Satchel. Satchel is the VLE platform which teaching staff will use to share lesson instructions and resources. Please make sure that your son/daughter has access to Satchel.

Subject related work will be uploaded to Satchel on a regular basis. This will not match the pupil timetable as lesson tasks are uploaded throughout the week.

What to do if your child has to be off from school due to coronavirus?

  •  Make sure to inform school as soon as possible.
  • Our attendance officer will add your child to the home learning classroom.
  • This may take 24hrs to come online as Satchel updates every 24hrs at midnight.
  • Monitor your child’s work stream on a smartphone through the Satchel App, or on a computer through the Satchel website.

Request a Digital Device

Request a digital device for your child

Ashton on Mersey School is working hard to ensure that all of our pupils have a suitable device and internet access to complete their remote learning.

A suitable device is:

  • A laptop computer or similar device like a ChromeBook.
  • A desktop computer

What is not a suitable device:

  • A Smartphone like an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy
  • The majority of work can be completed on an iPad or similar tablet, although producing long pieces of written work on this kind of device can be extremely difficult. We therefore recommend that pupils request a device if they only have access to a tablet.

Acceptable reasons for requesting a device:

  1. Your child only has access to a device which is not suitable (a Smartphone)
  2. Your child is having to share a suitable device with a sibling or other member of the household
  3. Your child only has access to a tablet or Smartphone
  4. Your child does not have access to an effective internet a connection
  5. Your child did have access to a suitable device but it is now broken.

How to request a device:
